Janine Painter trained as an Occupational Therapist in Sydney at Cumberland College of Health Sciences.  She has over 35 years experience working with children and their families.  She has worked in the public health system and with Charitable Institutions.  She opened her private practice in 1993 and has offices at Mosman within the Mosman Language and Learning Centre and at Miranda in the Sutherland Shire.

Occupational Therapy focuses on developing:

  • Fine motor skills including drawing
  • Scissor skills
  • Hand preference
  • Handwriting and pencil grip
  • General gross motor co-ordination eg:  balance and ball skills
  • School readiness and pre-academic skills
  • Self-care skills eg: tying shoelaces and fastening buttons
  • Learning and pre-reading skills including reversals, memory and missing words when reading
  • Attention and concentration

Therapy and assessments are provided for young babies through to the end of high school with difficulties ranging from:

  • Minimal handwriting and coordination difficulties
  • Specific difficulties associated with Autistic Spectrum Disorders
  • Learning difficulties
  • Attention deficit difficulties
  • Developmental delays
  • Neurological conditions and specific syndromes (eg Down Syndrome)
